Hey, You're gonna love the latest episode of the Image Workshop - where I turn your book covers into winning Facebook Ads. This week we focus on fonts. Watch now on YouTube: We cover: - how to choose the right font style for your ad
- where to find suitable, professional fonts - for free
- when to match the fonts on your book cover
- and why that's a sometimes a terrible idea!
We take our time with the first ad, explaining the design logic behind every step so you can follow along with me. But with the basic principles nailed down, we then whizz through several more across multiple genres - romcom, crime, YA fantasy, and family saga/historical fiction, before finishing off with some dark romance, as all things should. I have timestamps in both episodes now, so you can easily skip to the genres you desire. However. Please note I recommend watching all the ad designs as you'll learn something from each one, regardless of your own actual niche. And you'll pick up quite a few tips for effective Facebook campaigns through the back door as well. It's basically a superfood but packed with knowledge instead of whatever the hell vitamins are. Next time we will cover a couple of things that you all have been clamoring for: how to deal with covers which aren't workable backgrounds - text-heavy non-fiction covers are an obvious example, but the problem bleeds into fiction regularly also. And then if we can squeeze it in, we'll look at 3D book covers, when to use them, and how to make them look pro when you do. Before I go, make sure to check the description of each of these videos after watching as they link to any tools or resources I mention in the episode - and this week there is some great stuff, including a link to Google Fonts, which is a massive, free repository of fonts which are fully licensed for commercial use. And then for real font junkies (you know who you are), I have a link to my favorite font store for when you need something truly special. I try to pick covers that reflect each week's theme across a range of genres, so don't worry if you haven't been picked yet. The response to the Image Workshop has been so positive - largely powered by your sharing btw - which has basically guaranteed lots and lots more episodes. Don't forget, if you want to submit your cover, simply reply to any newsletter from me with your book cover, your cover art (without lettering), your genre, and a link to Amazon. And if you feel like continuing the heroic sharing, the relevant Facebook post is here and the YouTube link is up top. Thanks again, Dave P.S. Writing music this week is suitably stylish: Metronomy with The Look. |
