| Hey, I have some good news: the Image Workshop is back! By popular request, Episode 3 of the Image Workshop tackles what you might call "tricky covers." You can watch it here on YouTube. Regular viewers will know my go-to method for generating Facebook Ads and then spinning that out into comprehensive branding covering everything from newsletter banners and Facebook Page headers to website graphics and social teasers. In short, I like to take the book cover art - without lettering - and use it as the background. But that's not always possible, or suitable. There are all sorts of reasons why you might sometimes need a different approach. Maybe there is a rights issue, or that particular book is with a publisher who won't provide the files. Or perhaps your cover designer has gone dark; it happens. Often the reason is that your cover design simply doesn't lend itself to my go-to method - which explains why I have received so many emails asking what to do in these situations. Luckily, there is One Answer to Rule Them All - which covers all these diverse scenarios. I break it down today in the Image Workshop, showing: - why my go-to method doesn't work for some covers
- how to solve this for a vector-based or illustrated cover, and
- what to do if you have a photo-based cover.
I hope you find this helpful - so many of you have asked me to cover this. I dropped the video yesterday evening… and it seemed to fall into an algorithmic black hole… so I'd really appreciate some shares on this one. You can either share the YouTube link, or this Facebook post if you prefer - whichever works! depositphotos image packs If you are thinking of grabbing a DepositPhotos image pack for yourself, note that you can do far better than their Black Friday deal of $65. AppSumo is running the same deal of DepositPhotos credits for just $39. It comes with more benefits too, such as a 60-day return guarantee if you change your mind, and a promise that the credits never expire (which hasn't always been the case if you buy them direct from DepositPhotos!). If that's of interest, here's my affiliate link: Get 100 Stock Photo Credits for $39. The deal runs until December 4 but be warned that this is an early Black Friday deal where the price increases in three days - so if you were considering it, I'd suggest buying before then. OK, I'm off to make butternut squash soup. France is cold today! Dave P.S. Chopping music this week is a demo from Graham Nash and Joni Mitchell: Our House. |
