Tonight, I worked out. I don't deserve any high-fives for that, though.
In fact, I'll be totally honest, I would have rather done anything but work out — help Pumpkin undergo a tax audit, listen to a quartet of tone-deaf llamas singing Fleetwood Mac covers for five hours, willingly take an advanced calculus class taught exclusively in Latin...
That's why I spent a good solid 35 minutes in the parking lot of the gym I work out at listening to the new Terminator episode of The Rewatchables before I finally went in.
But I was so glad I did afterward. I can't expect any of the perks like not looking like a female version of Stay Puft if I don't put down the double creme brie and pick up a free weight, you know what I mean?
Still, it freaking baffles me how many people accept this universal principle of only getting out what you put into something... and then they willfully forget it when it comes to digital sales and marketing.
Too often I see business leaders throw their hands up in the air after a few months of "trying" strategies like inbound marketing and virtual selling and video, claiming whatever they chose to do "just isn't working" — come to find out, they never truly put in the work and made the necessary changes that would yield the results they were looking for...
- They never hired a content manager, and then they were shocked that their content initiative failed due to lack of ownership and accountability.
- They never committed to a regular schedule of creating video, and then they wondered why their efforts stalled.
- They refused to admit where their current processes were broken or that something was even wrong to begin with, and then they bemoaned the fact that nothing ever changes or gets better.
When you don't put in the work and make the necessary changes, how can you expect any results at all?
