The focus this week is on cover design as I've just published a huge 5,000 word guide on the topic - free on my blog - How To Design A Book Cover That Sells. I think this is the most comprehensive post out there on the topic, but then I would say that, wouldn't I? In this guide, I kick off with breaking down what makes a great book cover, then show you how to find an affordable professional. Not only that, but how to brief them correctly. How to spot trends in your niche and how to get your designer to incorporate those into your cover. There's also options for those on a lower budget and even *gasp* advice for those intrepid types designing their own. Check it out, I spent a lot of time putting this together and I think it's pretty useful. One last thing for you this week: Ricardo Fayet - one of the founders of Reedsy - has released a book on marketing. And it's free. I've been a fan of Ricardo's marketing newsletter for a few years now, especially because he always seems to come at the usual topics from a different angle. The book is called How To Market A Book: Overperform In A Crowded Marketplace and it's permafree on all retailers. I haven't read it yet myself - but definitely plan to as I've been a fan of Ricardo's marketing newsletter for a few years now, especially because he always seems to come at the usual topics from a different angle. Just looking at the TOC, it seems to be a really thorough overview of all the different options for marketing a book, so you should check it out. And that's all he wrote! Dave P.S. Doo-wopping music this week is The Crystals with And Then He Kissed Me. |
