Those who know me have come to accept my rabid love of The Godfather...

...which is why I have a tiny Vito Corleone on my desk. He's my tiny good luck charm whenever I'm trying to brainstorm something creative or I need to knock out some seriously profound content creation on a short deadline.

"I'm going to make Liz's writer's block an offer it can't refuse," etc.

What's wild about The Godfather movies (Part I and Part II) is that they were almost a complete disaster. You see, I recently learned that Paramount Pictures wanted to update the unimpeachable 1940s classic set in New York and Italy to be a "contemporary" story set in 1970s Kansas City, because it would be cheaper.

Can you even imagine? Just thinking about it gives me chills.

I'm sure, at the time, the studio didn't think such a "small" shift could have potentially been a death blow to what went on to become the two greatest movies ever made.

But isn't that how it always is? Something doesn't seem like a big deal at first, until you realize how far-reaching the implications might be.

For instance, if you've been sleeping on the upcoming May 2021 Google algorithm update – chalking it up as yet another techno-babble, jargon-laced push that, ultimately, isn't that big of a deal for you or your business website – you'd be "Kansas City in the 1970s" levels of wrong, trust me.

(See what I did there? I'm so clever. And now, here's THE LATEST.)

👉 There's a big Google algorithm update coming in May, and you need to be ready for it (5-minute read)

When it comes to a business website, page experience is a big deal to your ideal buyers – and likely you, as well, when you're off-the-clock, roaming the internet as a private citizen and money-spending consumer. It's such a big deal that, last year, Google rolled out a scoring system for website owners to grade themselves on page experience for their users. And now, this spring, that scoring system will become part of the core algorithm for ranking web pages in search results. What does that mean for you? Well, in this article from yours truly, I break down (in plain English) what this big Google algorithm update is, why it will have such a big impact on your rankings, and what you need to do now to prepare.

"There have been moments (especially early in my career) when I have felt belittled by my male colleagues, and there have been many other moments when I've felt appreciated, respected, and given the same level of consideration as my male counterparts — but the key difference that I see is that this level of baseline respect is not always guaranteed for women in the workforce." 👉 Attention e-commerce brands, YouTube is now live-testing product tags within videos (1-minute read)

The pilot is only being tested with a select group of creators and only users who live in the United States will be able to see these changes on their phones or desktops. We don't know when this will be released to all creators. One thing is clear, however — the pandemic forced a massive shift toward e-commerce, which means it won't be long before we should see video shopping capabilities across all social media platforms. In this article from IMPACT Director of Digital Sales and Marketing Coaching Karisa Egan, get the inside scoop on YouTube's new product tag feature, now in beta.
