Yesterday, Liz talked about the importance of time off. It was interesting timing, as I was reminded of that same lesson myself.
You see, over the weekend I had to say goodbye to my 14-year old dog, Katie.
As I was trying to process the grief and emotions of the weekend's events, I started to get overwhelmed thinking about all I had to do at work on Monday.
I realized I would not be mentally present, productive, or useful to my team. So, I texted my amazing manager Vin and asked for Monday off. To which he replied, "do what you need to do."
I felt instant relief, knowing that I could take the day to myself and come back ready to get back to work on Tuesday.
This wasn't just an example of a supportive leader, but also of a supportive team who completely understood and was ready to jump in and take the reins while I was out.
This is a reminder to everyone who feels guilty taking a day off or who gets burnt out trying to take on too much at once. It's ok and necessary to take time when you need it!
