Google page experience core update rolls out (finally!), what is quality content really, and 4 key metrics to tell you if your inbound strategy is working ... this is THE LATEST!

🔥 Hot off the presses

👋 Attention IMPACT+ Pro members! You can now RSVP for Video Sales & Marketing World 2021! On July 20, you'll learn how to turn video into one of your best revenue drivers, no matter your experience level. Trust me, you'll want to be there.

In the most recent episode of Content Lab, John Becker (my delightful, intrepid logophile of a co-host) asked me a simple question:

"How did you get started with the video program at IMPACT?"

Given that my loud mouth is lightyears faster than the two dust particles of common sense in my brain, my answer rolled off my tongue before I could censor myself:

"Under duress."

Yes, although I am a devotee of all things quality content, I did not want to touch video at all. Obviously, I'm all-in on video now. And, in all fairness to myself, I don't think I was alone in my initial hesitation.

For example, how many of you nod along enthusiastically to video marketing stats like ...

  • Buyers spend 88% more time on a website with video than without video.
  • 70% of buyers today watch a video before making a purchase.
  • Your buyers will retain 95% of your message if they consume it via video, rather than reading it.

... but still would rather, I don't know, be forced to run a full marathon backward, while dressed like a Rockette and reciting the Declaration of Independence to the tune of Sweet Home Alabama?

One year ago, this couch-to-zero-K enthusiast was raising her hand.

And if you're sitting there also mentally raising your hand, don't be too hard on yourself. For so many of us, the hill with video feels too steep to climb. Maybe it (seemingly) costs too much money, you don't have the time (or the in-house talent) to do it right, or (if you're like me) the idea of being on video makes you dry-heave.

Or maybe you love video already, but you just don't know where to start. If any of that sounds like you, I strongly encourage you to check out Video Sales and Marketing World 2021. You'll be amazed to learn what's possible for you with video.

And now, here's THE LATEST...

Google's page experience core update is finally rolling out, which is a big deal (2-minute read)

Last winter, the Google team announced that factors pertaining to "page experience" on a website – stability, speed/load time, security, user annoyance, etc. – would become part of the core algorithm that determines how well your business website's content does (or doesn't) rank in search results. Now, that update is live. From yours truly, here is what you need to know (and do) about Google's page experience update in plain language.

What is quality content? (6-minute read)

The word "quality" is pretty subjective. For content marketers, however, there are two definitions – Google's (quality content is relevant and matches intent) and yours (quality content drives traffic, leads and sales). And IMPACT's own Ramona Sukhraj is here to un-muddy these content waters with a deep-dive into answering one of the most important questions we all face – what is quality content, really?

4 inbound marketing metrics to track to see if your strategy is working (5-minute read

The beauty of inbound marketing is that it brings us troves of customer data that allows us to see which content is reaching and resonating with our audience. But this brings with it the opposite problem. We've gone from too little data to too much. With a nearly endless amount of data at our fingertips, IMPACT Revenue Editor John Becker is here to help you answer a simple question – how do we know which inbound metrics are the important ones to watch?
