[THE LATEST] Style vs substance

Recently, I went to a restaurant boasting they served blue rice. Amateur food scientist that I am, I had to try it...

...and I was completely disappointed because it tasted, well, like regular rice. ("Duh, what were you expecting, Liz?" I know, I know.) I guess that's why someone smart once said style isn't everything, and it can never mask a lack of substance

I agree, but still... I posit that style is a very big something. Especially when it comes to your brand.

For instance, in the case of your messaging and your content, it's not just what you say that matters (substance), it's also how you say it (style). Alternatively, you can't just say your brand is approachable, progressive, and willing to challenge convention (substance), you also have to deliver on that promise with your brand's personality, voice, and tone (style).

That's why a content style guide is the most important piece of documentation you'll ever create for your brand. And I will be teaching you how to do that as one of the hands-on interactive sessions at this week's Brand Bootcamp with Design Pickle.
