Your step by step guide for building learning and development blocks in your calendar:
- Block time on your calendar (nailed it!)
- Have something come up that is more urgent (uh oh...)
- Completely miss the time block you created (dang it!)
- Move the original time block to the next day (asking for trouble...)
- Repeat until Friday at 5:00pm, then decide it'll be best done on a fresh week (not again!)
- Repeat steps 1-5 over and over (yep...again!)
I bet you're a bit like me when it comes to sticking to a plan focused on your growth and development.
You set up a full schedule with time blocks and specific topics or content you want to learn from, then something comes up and it all falls apart.
The worst part? It was the only time in your week to do it, so now you have to go yet another week before you can give it another go!
I sympathize with you. I work at a company with an online education platform, and even I am guilty of this fate.
I've moved my blocks of time over and over again because of the I need your help with this and This will only take a few minutes types of asks.
I don't have the perfect solution for you, but my recommendation is this:
Find five minutes in your day (ten if you're feeling brave) to watch one video, read one article, or complete one exercise.
Don't stumble on needing hours to do something. Break it into little, bite-sized pieces that you can learn from.
Build the habit of continuous learning, and it'll get easier from there!
I'd love to hear your struggles or wins in building development time into your schedule :) Hit reply and share the knowledge!
